Dear all,
Welcome.
Have you ever got clue of how GPS could have effect in your life? Past March 2011 Tsunami at Japan had moved island 200 mtr from it's original position as was recorded in the nearest GPS station.
China would soon test its Anti-Satellite weapon. It is supposed to pose danger to USA's Global Positioning System. However, China's govt. news agency claimed that it is China's right to test it. The ASAT would make China ahead.
Earlier, US media reports suggested that China may conduct such test. China had tested ASAT earlier during 2007 & 2011 on Jan 11. However, the nature of type of test is still unknown.
India had also raised concern over the issue.Indian defence officials claimed that India should also acquire such capability. Also, Scientists at Cambridge stated that it would increase concerns worldwide.
As per China, USAs strategists concerns are uncalled for as it is not being tested for damaging any satellite. China is developing a technique which would deactivate satellite after its life span is over. Earlier, China & Russia had made a programme in 2008. ASAT would be China's triumph card and no other country would think of competing in Space technology.
It is to note that China had recently tested its Wide Navigation Satellite System (VDS). It is being used by China's ministry & Army. 20 additional satellites are planned for launching.
As per US officials, China's test range would increase striking capability upto 12,000 kms. As per Space.com, it can cause damage to the GPS.
Earlier, such tests were banned by USA & USSR.
